Privacy policy
Effective October 24, 2026. This policy covers chockandlevel.com ("the site"), operated by Chock & Level.
What the site collects
The site is a static website. It has no user accounts. It collects:
- Contact and newsletter forms. If you submit the contact form or newsletter form, the information you type (name, email address, message) is stored by our hosting provider, Netlify, so we can reply or send the newsletter. We do not sell or share it. You can ask for it to be deleted at any time at hello@chockandlevel.com.
- Server logs. Netlify records standard request logs (IP address, user agent, requested page, time) for security and operation. See Netlify's privacy policy.
- Calculator inputs. The calculators run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type into them is sent to us.
Advertising and cookies
The site displays ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You may also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info.
Google and its advertising partners may use the cookies and identifiers described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. The list of ad technology providers that may receive data when you visit this site is available through the consent message shown to visitors in the regions described below.
Your consent choices
EEA, UK, and Switzerland. Visitors are shown a consent message, provided through Google's certified consent management platform, before any personalized advertising cookies are set. You can accept, decline, or manage choices per purpose and per vendor, and you can change your choice later through the "Privacy and cookie settings" link in the footer of the message or by clearing cookies. Declining still allows non-personalized ads.
US states with privacy laws (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Delaware and others). Visitors are shown a "Do not sell or share my personal information" choice. Opting out restricts data processing for advertising. Global Privacy Control browser signals are honored where required.
Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which guides people read and how they find them. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (such as _ga) and collects information like pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and referring site. IP addresses are not logged or stored by Google Analytics 4. This data is reported to us in aggregate and is not used to identify you.
In the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, analytics cookies are not set unless you allow them in the consent message. Elsewhere, you can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. See Google's privacy policy for how Google handles this data.
Guides show YouTube video previews. The video player, and YouTube's cookies, load only if you press play; the player uses YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. See Google's privacy policy.
The site also remembers your light or dark display choice and which guide steps you have ticked off in your browser's local storage. Those settings never leave your device.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Links
Guides link to manufacturer documentation and other sites. Their privacy practices are their own.
